BO-VEST has today announced that MT Højgaard has been chosen as turnkey contractor for the next major phase in the ongoing refurbishment of the Albertslund South urban district. The DKK 520 million project involves 544 terraced houses. Work is expected to start at the end of August and will continue for next three years.

The refurbishment is part of "Master Plan South", the first phase of which was the modernisation of the apartment blocks in 2009. Now the turn has come for the terraced houses. The refurbishment will place significant focus on energy efficiency and is based on the "Albertslund Concept", which was praised by the Nordic Council of Ministers when Albertslund was awarded best Energy Municipality of 2011.

MT Højgaard was the best on price, quality and process.

- We are proud to have been chosen in competition with a number of other bidders and are looking forward to the collaboration with BO-VEST, Albertslund Housing Association and Vridsløselille Housing Cooperative on this important project. We are aware that a lot of focus are on these houses and therefore on our work. It is our aim to make the refurbishment a positive experience for everyone, says Executive Vice President Jens Nyhus, who is responsible for MT Højgaard's construction business.

MT Højgaard's new project in Albertslund adds to a range of similar projects demonstrating the group's competences and strengths.

The refurbishment contract is expected to be signed shortly after the usual tender activities have been completed. The agreement is forecasted to have a positive influence on MT Højgaard's revenue and profit during the refurbishment period. It does not influence previously published financial expectations for 2012.

About the project

Albertslund South was created in the mid-1960s as a high density, low-rise construction project creating intimacy and social cohesion in a light and airy environment. The houses were built as atrium and terraced houses with small gardens. The area is divided into quarters with narrow streets and small squares. Albertslund South is considered to be an icon of the Danish welfare state, and considerable importance is attached to it.

The refurbishment of the terraced houses is comprehensive and forms part of an overall plan for the area. The aim is to develop Albertslund South physically and socially so that it remains an attractive housing area for as many as possible. The refurbishment will make the houses future-ready and provide them with up-to-date qualities. The refurbishment is connected with other activities in the area over the next 10 years. Total costs are estimated at DKK 1.5 billion.
